The latest details unveil that chiefs in the Japanese company gave a green light to a V6 engine for the 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser. It replaces a legendary V8 for the 60th-anniversary edition.
We already wrote about Series 300 and the redesign. Well, it’s been nearly 15 years of the current edition. Changes were needed and fans will welcome even if there are more modifications than expected. A V6 turbo engine with hybrid technology is definitely a surprise.
No Details About the Redesign, But We Know Engine Room is Being Updated
Rumors about the redesign of the iconic SUV are already old. We expected big changes for a few years. But, the most recent reports by Forbes are showing further hints about the redesign. Previously, we saw a teaser image from some Japanese magazines. But, it wasn’t clear if this is a concept or an official image.
Now, there are analysis that indicate a twin-turbo V6 system is about to replace a V8 engine. In this case, the power output drops to 350 hp (from 380 hp), but the fuel consumption jumps to 24 mpg combined (currently at 16 mpg). Also, the hybrid engine will reduce emissions.
60th Anniversary and New Generation (300 Series)
In 2021 will be 60 years since the first appearance of the legendary SUV. During six decades, we saw numerous changes. Land Cruiser transformed from a military vehicle to commercial use. In 1984 the company created two series – luxury and utility. In Australia, we still can find the Land Cruiser 70 Series pickup truck. For the US, the LC makes the utility and luxury gap very close. The new 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser will get this connection even tighter.
