The most recent auto show in Chicago killed all hopes of the 2021 Toyota 4Runner redesign. The company introduced a couple of new trims to get some time until they launch the new generation of the SUV. In 2021, fans can pick Trail Edition and Nightshade versions, with unique upgrades. This is the limited-time offer, with the number of copies narrowed to 4,000 and 5,000 copies.

Besides the new arrivals, the rest of the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is the same as before. The SUV is a capable off-roader, with an explosive and thirsty engine. The 4Runner is one of the pioneers of the TRD Pro lineup, and this package is still very impressive. Fans could see even cheaper prices for the upcoming model, which will offer both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for the first time.

From what we saw, the Trails Edition is a lighter version of the TRD Pro model. It even uses the same wheels. Well, it is built on the SR5 trim, with a lot of black accents around the SUV. Plus, there are roof rails and custom coolers to make things more interesting. The company limits this version to 4,000 units and the first of them will roll out from the factory lines this summer.

Nightshade Package

While the Trail is more performance-focused, the 2021 Toyota 4Runner Nightshade will take care of the exterior and interior look. A total of seven vehicles will get this bundle with a darker cabin covered with leather. More chrome details will boost elegance.

Verdict

This is not exactly what we want from the 4Runner. Fans will request modernization of the vehicle that introduced this styling eight years ago. Yes, the SUV is an off-road specialist, but enthusiasts take care of the look of their ride, and aftermarket tuning is not going to fix all the things they would like to see from the company. Toyota has a tough task, but it seems the Japanese carmaker will wait for 2023 and the new generation of the 4Runner.
