Toyota 4Runner is one of the most versatile SUVs in the world. With the TRD Pro package, its off-road capabilities are much better. The 2020 Toyota 4Runner is raising everything to another, higher level.
The vehicle will keep all the advantages of the current edition. Also, the Toyota 4Runner update 2020 will bring some additional TRD Pro features and colors. Furthermore, we can hear, but not confirm, the hybrid version of the SUV. Outside the US, the 4Runner drives a diesel engine. The 2020 Toyota 4Runner will offer it for buyers in North America. Then, Off-Road Premium and Limited packages are about to get even more stunning options, making them more expensive than the TRD Pro model. All in all, there won’t be lack of excitement with the upcoming SUV.
2020 Toyota 4Runner Changes
Fans of the 4Runner SUV are waiting for big changes on their favorite wheels for a decade. Well, one facelift brought a refresh in 2013. Ever since only the addition of TRD Pro package was worthy of mention. But now, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner redesign will revive the interest in this aging model. Some enthusiasts are going even further, believing the SUV could head into the sixth generation. But, this is unlikely to happen. Designers will rather stick to the redesign.
Even if the changes on the look are big, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner concept remains the same. It is an off-road SUV. Its upper trim levels are not offering too many premium features. All extra packages will boost the capabilities needed for a ride in tough terrains. Of course, 2020 4Runner TRD Pro comes with the best features. Whatsoever, the Off-Road Premium trim offers the great combo of driving and styling upgrades. Changes in the upcoming 4Runner will improve its off-road skills and appearance.
4Runner Is Finally Getting Android Auto
The latest information are reporting that Android Auto is coming for few 2020 season models. The 4Runner is getting the update and all owners of smartphones with Google’s system will be able to connect it to the existing services. Of course, Android Auto will improve hands-free controls, texting, and making calls while driving. Besides the 2020 Toyota 4Runner, the feature will be available in Sequoia, Tundra, and Tacoma.

2020 Toyota 4Runner Limited
Well, both Off-Road Premium and TRD Pro packages are very attractive, but these are not going to be a match to the 2020 Toyota 4Runner Limited version. Large 20-inch wheels with unique rims are the highlight of the exterior. Inside we will find more accessories boosting overall safety. For example, there are parking sonar and auto running boards. Besides that, the 4Runner Limited will add multiple-zone automatic climate control and seats with heating and ventilating functions.
2020 Toyota 4Runner TRD Pro
The Limited edition of the SUV might be the most luxurious, but it is not the most exciting. However, its price in 2020 will be just slightly higher than for 2020 4Runner TRD Pro. For the approximately the same amount of money we can choose luxury features or superb performance. Lovers of off-road adventures will choose the later one.
With the 2020 Toyota 4Runner colors choice there is no mistake. Unique paintjob will turn the attention to the vehicle. But, what makes this model so special are the features that boost its off-road capabilities. TRD Pro skid plates, Bilstein suspension, and all-terrain tires are definitely making the difference. When Toyota adds the CRAWL system, then there is no a single doubt why 4Runner is one of the favorite off-road SUVs.
2020 Toyota 4Runner Spy Photos
It is still early to speak of the final product. But, the 2020 Toyota 4Runner spy photos are confirming the vehicle is in advanced phases of development. But, heavy camo is also telling there is room for improvements. Fans will see more and more spy shots as the release date approaches. Every next time we see 4Runner on street there will be more detailed info about the styling and appearance of the SUV. Currently, spy photos are there just to let us know the Japanese carmaker is working on the next update.
2020 Toyota 4Runner MPG and Specs
The Toyota 4Runner update 2020 is not binging a new engine. The vehicle is using a reliable and proven option from the past editions. It is a 4.0-liter V-6 unit which is available in 2WD and part-time 4WD modes. A five-speed automatic gearbox is there again. Buyers can count on 270 horses, 280 lb-ft of torque, and fuel economy of 19 mpg combined.
Diesel Engine
We won’t waste too much time for the existing petrol model. More significant changes are happening. The 2020 Toyota 4Runner Diesel is one of two we found as possibilities.
One of the possibilities is the good-old D-4D unit. A 2.8-liter four-pot engine is good for 180 horses and 330 lb-ft of torque. Definitely, the company has to put up some muscles for 2020 Toyota 4Runner Diesel. Turbochargers could do the job. Another option has far less chances to find its way. It is a weaker version, a 1KZ unit with 3.0-l displacement.
Can 2020 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid Boost MPG?
Another 2020 Toyota 4Runner configuration will be an electric drivetrain. If there are some clues about diesel engines, then experts have no idea what could be used for the hybrid system. Electric motors could be placed on all four wheels to boost performance and MPG. With it, the 4Runner could gain extra miles, reaching 23 or 24 mpg. This is still not a great fuel economy. But, every improvement in this area is a bonus. The 2020 Toyota 4Runner Hybrid configuration will definitely add some versatility and another option for buyers.
When Will 2020 Toyota 4Runner Be Available?
The release date of the 2020 Toyota 4Runner is set for late-2019. With a year to go, we will face more changes of minds and retuning. But, the first appearance the SUV will have much earlier. Even the last months of 2018 are not written off. But, more certain dates are early next season when the major car shows are happening.
The 2020 Toyota 4Runner price is not determined yet. It will heavily depend on a number of changes to the base model. However, with big modifications in the high-end lineup, the cost of the new SUV could jump to $50,000. That is the price for 2020 4Runner TRD Pro and Limited model that won’t surprise enthusiasts.
Verdict
Either redesign or the new generation, the vehicle is going to cement its place as one of the best off-road SUVs. The model can’t compete with the likes of Toyota Land Cruiser or Mercedes G-Class. But among its competition, it is a favorite. Well, we will see how 2020 Toyota 4Runner will compete with the upcoming 2020 Chevy Tahoe and its new independent rear suspension system.
I heard rumors one of the new trims will be available in a manual transmission!! Don’t tease!! Any truth?!?!?!
We’ve heard that as well… Trying to find more about it.
I am waiting to trade my Tundra for the next generation 4runner, please Toyota give us at least 300hp or more in the next generation. More power and better mpg.
In 2000 , I bought a 2001 Toyota $Runner , I still drive it today.
I need a new one but really WHY ?
I do not need the horse power and the gas mileage of a 2019 is the same as a 2001.
