The 2021 Tesla Model Y finally comes true. The company’s first figure, Elon Musk, presented the vehicle in China. So, this is finally an affordable all-electric crossover SUV by the American carmaker. Still, Tesla will build produce some of the Model Y in its homeland.

The highlights of the new crossover are: $40,000 price tag, range of 230 miles at its base variant and up to 300 miles, seven-seat layout, and 6 sec acceleration time for 0-60 mph.

2021 Tesla Model Y Will Be Built in Shanghai, Musk is Thrilled

The new plant in China delivered the first model after only 357 days. It is a kind of record in the automotive industry. Well, what’s more important, Elon Musk was happy to announce the new model. Although it was already official, we didn’t want to believe until we see it. So, now we know where will the 2021 Tesla Model Y be built.

The expectations of the new model are high, mostly because of its price. The company was criticized for the Model X and there is no wonder why Musk was so inspired at the premiere. Dance, striptease, and NSFW t-shirt were part of the CEO’s show.

Range, Specs

The new 2021 Tesla Model Y will have a range of 230 miles. However, the base model will arrive later next year. Until then, all other versions will be available. Standard battery can provide 280 miles. Max speed is 135 mph, and the crossover can sprint 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds. The longest distance the new Model Y is going to cover is 300 miles. Performance edition is even more monstrous, reaching 150 mph and accelerating to 60 mph in 3.5 sec.

Can Fisker Ocean Compete With 2021 Tesla Model Y?

It is hard to challenge Tesla. But, more companies are going to deliver electric SUVs very soon. Ford and Jaguar already did it. But, most eyes are on the Fisker Ocean, an optimistic effort by Henrik Fisker. Its crossover SUV will be cheaper than the 2021 Model Y. Well, Tesla did the first move and we will see how other carmakers are going to react.
