The Japanese company planned to launch a unit that uses the same fuel in the US, but it seems like bosses changed their minds. Instead of the development in this segment, Subaru turns to hybrid systems and electrification. So, the 2020 Subaru Forester Diesel is unlikely to happen.
2020 Subaru Forester STI and Turbo
Further changes on the 2020 Subaru Forester are not less impressive. Well, the crossover SUV is dropping the turbo engine. Fans of the Forester XT model are not going to like it. The old 2.0-liter engine is in the books for good. But, Subaru prepared for the replacement. It is a 2.5-liter standard Boxer unit, which will be specially tuned for the Sport trim level. This model is going to be a replacement for Forester Turbo.
On the other hand. we still expect updates about the 2020 Subaru Forester STI. Experts are sure the model is going to be available, but the carmaker is still quiet on this. The Subaru Tecnica international (STI) upgrades existing models for races. Well, the Forester STI will be a street-legal SUV with performance tuned for the racing machine.
Boxer Engine is the Only Powertrain for 2020 Subaru Forester
The 2020 Subaru Forester will use only the Boxer engine. It is a 2.5-liter unit that is very capable of the road and off-road drive. The same unit Subaru is borrowing for the next-gen Toyota Land Cruiser, according to some speculations.
For the new Forester, the engine is good for 182 horses and 176 lb-ft of torque. The same engine produced power for the previous edition. However, the new system added 12 ponies and 2 pound-feet of torque. Besides the Boxer engine, there are also direct injection and AVCS feature for exhaust. The drivetrain comes with higher compression ratio and a new transmission.
The company dropped a manual gearbox. So, only a Lineartronic CVT case is available across the entire lineup. There are seven gears and paddle shifters on the Sport model. Drivers will have an option to select various ride modes thanks to the Intelligent SI Drive feature. Finally, there is EyeSight assistance technology. This one is not able to pair the manual gearbox, so the logical move was to discontinue the old transmission.
2020 Subaru Forester More Changes
Amount of changes on the 2020 Subaru Forester will depend on the customers’ feedbacks. The new generation of any vehicle needs some time to prove itself. Many changes are not always accepted well. Forester is one of the favorite Subaru’s vehicle. Its fans will definitely alarm the company with anything they don’t like. On the other hand, Subaru is listening such demands and some of them could be applied to the 2020 Forester. But, with the 2019 year model, the first of the fifth series, still not in the market, we can’t know what 2020 season is bringing.
