The design of Subaru’s SUVs and crossovers is very interesting. These vehicles are using a completely new way, by combining elements from two types of vehicles – wagons and crossovers. The 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo will belong to one of these breeds. Based on the Impreza sedan/hatchback, the new small SUV will bring a lot of similar elements. But, the main upgrade for the following season is the turbo engine.
Currently, the Crosstrek is available with a naturally-aspirated engine and the hybrid drivetrain. The turbocharger will be definitely paired with a legendary Boxer engine. A 2.5-liter displacement is a base for this configuration.
Besides this, the 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo will use the styling from the standard model. The new crossover will go through a mid-cycle refresh. A redesign will bring a lot of changes, including a new front fascia, with all elements being more aggressive than ever. The compact car needs improvements inside the cabin. The Japanese carmaker will add the latest infotainment features, if not as parts of the standard offer, then via optional packages.
2020 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo Engine Specs
Leaking information is saying the Boxer engine will go through a tuning for the new 2020 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo. This is a 2.5-liter displacement capable to produce 175-182 horsepower. Turbochargers will increase the outputs and the complete drive system. Subaru Crosstrek Turbo will pair it with a manual transmission, that is for sure. However, CVT is still an option, but unlikely we guess. A 2.5-liter turbo-four Boxer engine will be ready to deliver 305 hp and 290 lb-ft.
A manual gearbox transfers power exclusively to all wheels. No other mode is available. Well, Symmetrical AWD is the latest technology that constantly evolving. Each wheel will get enough power and torque when needed. The crossover will be quick since it is going to need only 5 seconds to reach 60 mph. Top speed is expected to be around 140 mph.
What is a Boxer Engine?
Subaru and Boxer engine are synonyms. The Japanese company is using these kinds of drivetrains through the entire lineup. The only other company that sometimes uses this breed of engines is Porsche. Also called flat engine, its cylinders are arranged in two rows of a crankshaft. Its position is horizontal, so it performs different compared to all other engines we know.
First of all, vehicles that use Boxer engine will provide better acceleration. At the same time, this drivetrain makes less vibration. Lower center of gravity than on the V engines cuts down the weight. Driving is getting a huge boost, especially with extra space beneath the underbody. Finally, when it comes to collision, the Boxer engine will take less damage. With its lower position, the hits are absorbed under the floor, making it harder for the engine to be pushed into the cabin. Well, most of Subaru’s vehicles are getting the highest scores for collision safety.
