The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is out. We already know that SUV is using 2.0-liter Boxer engine in all three trim levels. But, that is not all from this nameplate. The next update will bring more excitement since hybrid and 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo models are on the way. Specs of these vehicles are unknown yet. But, we could hear an official statement every day. Until then, we can test the new crossover and send feedback to the company.
The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is going to be the first plug-in SUV by the Japanese carmaker. With it, the company is stepping into the new market with clear direction – soon, we will see more such vehicles on the streets. Nevertheless, the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid has to prove itself. Also, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo will have big shoes to fill. The competition in the compact SUV segment is more than tough, and this model must impress. The entry-level vehicle is reliable and worth of purchase, but PHEV and Turbo versions will add WOW effect to the nameplate.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Specs
Under the hood of the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is a 2.0-liter Boxer engine. This unit is good for 150 hp and 145 lb-ft of torque. Also, the flat-four engine can return 33/27 mpg. Combined, the engine is one of the most economical in the class. But, this is the output for the all-wheel drive only, since the Crosstrek is not coming as a 2WD SUV. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek manual transmission models are available on the entry levels. These crossovers will come with a 6-speed manual box. However, an automatic CVT is optional and becomes standard for Limited trim. Maximum towing capacity for this vehicle will remain 1,500 pounds.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid – The First PHEV by Subaru
The company is bringing back the hybrid system. Now, it is better and more reliable than before. Thanks to Toyota’s help and their innovation, the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek PHEV will be fun to drive – in the city and off the road. The company is short of details, but we figured out that new system will use more electric power during urban cruising. The same engine will use more gasoline during longer trips and higher speeds. Although the information is unofficial, we believe that battery will be attached to the existing 2.0-liter petrol engine.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid MPG
Currently, the petrol engine in the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek is going to deliver 30 mpg combined. Highway gas mileage is at 33 mpg for the new SUV. Hybrid would boost these numbers, especially for an urban drive, which will not just match, but also top the highway value. On the other hand, the PHEV system is a more serious upgrade. It can make Crosstrek run by using the electric power only. The range of this version will be around 30 miles and overall 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid MPG over 90. Well, that is not the classic mileage, but eMPG.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo
The low output of the regular Boxer powertrain is not going to attract these buyers looking for mighty compact crossovers. However, Subaru could hear more and more critics about turbo version. For example, all competitors beefed up their models to achieve higher horsepower ratings. So, we have Jeep Cherokee producing 270 horses, Ford Escape with 250 hp, and even Kia Sportage version with 240 horsepower. Crosstrek sits at 145 ponies, which is not enough to be competitive in the market.
So, Crosstrek needs a turbo version, that is clear. But, what could be a solution for the engine room? There are two ways. One is to develop the new engine. However, it will be expensive. Also, it takes time. The other solution is more likely – to borrow the existing drivetrain from one of its siblings. The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo could take advantage of the Subaru WRX unit. The powertrain in this model can produce 270 horses. It sounds kind of too high for compact SUV. However, engineers can detune it and make it interesting to buyers. With output between 230-240 hp, Crosstrek Turbo would be a crossover to watch.
Trim Levels and Options
Currently, we can find the new crossover in three variants. The entry-level SUV will be Base. Mid-range Premium adds features such as heated front seats inside and fog lights outside the vehicle. There are a lot more optional features we are getting with this version, for just $1,000 more.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Limited
The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Limited is going to take a position at the top of the lineup. Well, with a price tag $5,000 higher than the mid-range Premium, we must expect and get more. And buyers who opt for this one will be happy to see specs sheet. First of all, there is an automatic transmission as a standard feature. Then, buyers will get 18-inch wheels and unique LED responsive headlights. A power moonroof is still an optional accessory here. Power driver seat and heated front buckets are coming with this package, as well as leather upholstery.
2019 Subaru Crosstrek Colors
Another great thing about the compact crossover will be color palette. The company brought new paintjobs to all versions. We are sure that 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Turbo and Hybrid will get special colors as well.
Price
The entry-level Crosstreck will cost just $22,000 without extra options. Comparing to its rivals, this is $3,000 less than Ford Escape. That puts 2019 Crosstrek at the better position. Even the Premium trim is significantly cheaper than these rivals. This trim level is just $1,000 more expensive than the base model. The most luxurious 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Limited trim costs over $27,000. But, for all the stuff we are getting with it, we can say it is worth.
Pricing for the 2019 Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid and Turbo are still not available. Well, these two are unconfirmed. After we see an official statement about them, we will be able to make estimations about prices. At this moment, we are pretty sure that Turbo is not going to be valued under $25,000. On the other hand, it is almost impossible to predict the cost of Crosstrek Hybrid. It is still unclear if it comes only as a PHEV, or there will be some mild-hybrid variant. In each case, the price will top the starting value of the Limited edition, probably being close to $30,000.
