The new Renault Captur 2020 is coming soon. The company didn’t test it for too long before they released the official statement. Significant changes are leading to the Captur 2 model. Longer crossover is now offering more space inside. Also, its longer wheelbase is keeping the maneuverability and handling. The vehicle will be lighter thanks to the new materials in its body. It improves fuel economy, as well as the steering. Finally, drivetrains are familiar, since the French company has a close relationship with Nissan.
The popularity of the Captur crossover raises ever since its first appearance in 2011. Back then, the French carmaker presented the concept that turned into production vehicle in 2013. Now, the Renault Captur 2020 is using the new platform that will offer much more versatility. That is exactly what the crossover needs. You will find a lot of similarities with the new generation of Clio, whose design solutions will be used for other Renault’s products in the near future.
Specs of Renault Captur 2020
The smallest unit it the lineup for the Renault Captur 2020 will be a 1.0-liter displacement. It can still produce 100 hp which is not the weakest output. A 1.5-liter dCi diesel is part of Renault squad for ages. This reliable powertrain creates 95 hp. Some upper trims will offer up to 115 horsepower. The partnership with Nissan pays off with a new engine for the Captur. It is a 1.3-liter petrol unit, also used by Qashqai crossover. This one is capable to burst 155 ponies. A couple of manual transmissions are available, with either five or six gears. You can also get the automatic gearbox. Again, Nissan delivers its seven-speed dual-clutch CVT.
Plug-in Hybrid
One of the biggest additions for the next year will be the PHEV version of the Renault Captur 2020. A 1.6-liter petrol engine serves as the main source of power. It is mated to a 9.8 kWh electric motor and the range for this unit is nearly 45 kilometers. The company didn’t unveil too many further details. This model will also get a larger battery pack which will push the range to 70 kilometers.
Renault Captur 2020 Changes
The new Renault Captur 2020 will be longer than before. The crossover gains 4 inches for total length. Now, the cargo capacity increases to 20 cubic feet. Captur will offer nearly 1 cubic foot of storage in various compartments inside the cockpit. Premium models will get the Bose audio system, which is not harming the overall volume. Inside, the new crossover will get a large screen at the center of the dashboard.
Outside, Renault is using C-shaped front and taillights. LED lamps and DRLs are standard. Chrome stripes are dominating with the new design of the front fascia. The company said more than 85 percent of materials used for building the vehicle is new. Aluminum takes the largest share and the weight will definitely drop. How much weight and fuel the new Captur will save, we still don’t know.
Release Date
The vehicle is official. We are now waiting for the orders to start. It will happen by the end of 2019. The company didn’t release any timeline. However, the entire compact segment in their plants will be updated next season, including Dacia Duster and Renault Kadjer crossovers.
