We already wrote a full review of the new 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport. Read it HERE. Meanwhile, the new information appeared. The Japanese company announced changes on the Qashqai crossover. This is a rebadged version of the Rogue Sport for the European market. Of course, a lot of modifications make these two models pretty different. The most notable changes are under the hood. First of all, Qashqai is using a diesel engine. From now on, there is a new 1.3-liter petrol drivetrain, which could find its way for the upcoming Rogue Sport.

The only certain powertrain for the 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport will be a 2.0-liter unit. The subcompact segment is not using too powerful units. So, the 1.3-liter engine perfectly fits into the lineup with a maximum output of 160 hp. Still, there are lighter versions. What’s more, the CVT transmission is attached to the current engine. The new 1.3 unit is using different configurations. All in all, there is an option for this drivetrain to arrive in the US. Nissan still needs to confirm it.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport New Engine Specs

A 1.3-liter engine is familiar to car lovers. Mercedes-Benz A-Class is using it. Mitsubishi-Nissan-Renault alliance joined forces with the German carmaker, and as a part of that deal, the union of three companies will use some of the engines by their new partner. The powertrain can produce either 140 or 160 horsepower. The lighter version is paired to the six-speed automatic transmission. This one is not so likely to happen in the US. However, there is a possibility, but we are sure that more buyers will opt for an automatic gearbox with seven paces and dual-clutch system. In this case, the output goes up to 160 horsepower.

New emission standards are ready to take effect in Europe. So, the new engine won’t have problems to accommodate to the US regulations. The efficient drivetrain is going to return better mileage than a 2.0-liter unit already available for Rogue Sport crossover. The turbocharged 1.3 mill also creates 180 lb-ft of torque.

Performance, Fuel Economy

The new engine will improve most segments on the specs sheet for the new 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport. Mercedes A-Class sprints to 60 mph in about 8 seconds. Well, Nissan could do it better with the new gearbox and lighter body. Top speed is expected to be 140 mph. A 1.3-liter engine is sending power only to all wheels. With FWD configuration, the crossover could need less time to reach 60 mph. According to official info, the new powertrain returns 44 mpg for the MB A-Class on the highway. We will see what will EPA tell about this one. However, expect the new 2020 Rogue Sport above 40 mpg.

1.3 Turbo vs 2.0 Inline-Four

If we compare performances of the turbo and existing engine, we could get similar outputs. The current model is good for 140 hp and it uses a CVT transmission. Well, the 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport will definitely get a front-wheel drive with the old configuration. The setup with a 1.3 engine is sending power only to all wheels. The new drivetrain is torquier and it offers better mileage. A 2.0-liter mill returns 28 mpg combined. With AWD equipped the mileage drops to 27 mpg.

2020 Nissan Rogue Sport Trim Levels and Features

We still don’t know if the new 1.3-liter turbo engine is going to be available for the base setup. Probably not. The entry-level crossover will definitely use a 2.0-l drivetrain. Besides the standard S model, there are also SL and SV crossovers. Both of the upper trims are going to offer configurations that include a new unit.

The 2020 Nissan Rogue Sport SL will add special 17-inch wheels and ProPilot system. Nissan’s autonomous drive is heading to the new level. However, we still don’t know how far the Japanese company is going and which models are getting the full package. Leather upholstery is available for the top of the line SL models. With the SV suite, buyers will get smaller wheels, and lower-level self-driving features.
