While we were checking the news about the upcoming GLA Class, a story popped up about the 2020 Mercedes EQA. We were curious to find out what was the new project by the German carmaker. Surprisingly or not, Mercedes will build an electric crossover.
The EQA concept was introduced in 2017 and this is the first time we can find traces about its release date. Back in that time, we could hear the company is going to deliver 10 all-electric models by 2022. Time is ticking away for Mercedes. The latest news is a great sign that shows something is going on.
What is The 2020 Mercedes EQA?
The 2020 Mercedes EQA is the production version of the concept we saw in 2017. As its name suggests, the crossover is based on the GLA Class. The subcompact vehicle is usually a topic of discussion – is it a true crossover, or it is a hatchback. Anyway, the new model is going to cause a lot of attention, since this should be the first all-electric vehicle in the segment. It will be also the next step for Mercedes. The company already launched powerful hybrids for its largest SUVs. GLS and GLE.
EQA Concept Details
The design of the EQA is very similar to the GLA model. But, under the hood, or seats for EVs, is a powerful battery that will make the crossover go at least 400 kilometers (250 miles). We will see if the carmaker is going to build more versions. Compared to rivals, the new VW ID4 model can provide a longer range by a similar battery. Also, Volkswagen offers three different drivetrain packs. So, this is definitely a challenge for the Mercedes. For a small model, the EQA delivers plenty of power and torque – 270 hp and 370 lb-ft.
2020 Mercedes EQA Release Date
The company is yet to announce the release date of the newest project. However, for two years we didn’t hear about this concept, and all of a sudden, fans have the first renders of the production model. That is the clear sign we could see it very soon at dealerships.
