Indian carmaker Mahindra is raising its popularity with every new model. It might not be the most popular worldwide brand, but these vehicles are excellent alternatives to buyers with not so deep pocket. How serious this company is, we can see from future plans for 2019 Mahindra Scorpio crossover. This SUV will get a hybrid version, which is the news that drew the attention of more serious players in the industry.
By adding a plug-in drivetrain, the Indian carmaker will expand its lineup. Bosses also announced that another vehicle from this company will get a hybrid version. However, there is no information which one will partner the 2019 Mahindra Scorpio. The SUV will definitely debut before its anonymous sibling. Whatsoever, the Mahindra company is already producing electric vehicles, so expectations from hybrid are big. On the other hand, we mustn’t forget about refreshed models with conventional engines.
2019 Mahindra Scorpio Release Date
The hybrid version of the 2019 Mahindra Scorpio will appear by the end of this year. The other vehicle is expected in 2019. But, what about the standard crossover? We will see a refresh of it and also come in last quarter of 2018. Price of the plug-in model is not available yet. Obviously, it will be definitely higher than the base unit.
New Generation of Scorpio
Although introducing of the new drivetrain is always a must for new generations, Scorpio will enter in its fourth during 2020. So, the hybrid SUV will be the vehicle which should maintain the level of interest before even bigger changes. Also, it will be some kind of a test of capability. Definitely, a plug-in crossover is in plans for the next-gen vehicle.
2019 Mahindra Scorpio Specs
Standard offer of the 2019 Mahindra Scorpio includes a diesel engine. Under the hood, engineers will place either a 2.2-liter mill or a 2.5-l 4-cylinder unit. The smaller displacement is the main engine. It is capable to deliver 140 hp and 240 lb-ft of torque. The drivetrain pairs a 6-speed manual transmission with 2WD by default. Alternatives are automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive.
The bigger unit is producing more power. It is going to use different transmission, with AISIN company developing a new energy router. On the other hand, a 2.5-liter unit is not going to increase the power output, as many fans can expect. This engine with higher volume will produce only 110 horses and less torque than its counterpart.
2019 Mahindra Scorpio Release Date and Price
We all expect news about the hybrid version. Both release date and price are still unknown. We assume that buyers will see this version before the standard 2019 Mahindra Scorpio appears. The electric vehicle will be some kind of an announcement of the next generation.
Price is definitely going to raise with the plug-in model. Base models of the 2019 Scorpio will cost from 10 lakhs in India, and around $15,000 in other markets. Upper trims are more expensive, and top of the class models are over $25,000. Hybrid will be somewhere between, probably around $20,000, or 13 lakhs.
