After we saw it last year as a test mule, the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport hasn’t appeared anymore. Whatsoever, we are still searching for some reliable source to confirm the next-gen SUV. The crossover belongs to the luxury mid-size class, which offers either two- or three-row seating layout. For the new Discovery Sport the same platform is getting updates to make this vehicle a better performer off roads.
Changes for the next-gen 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport will include modifications of drivetrain system. New units are also going to add a brand-new suspension system. With it, the off-road skills of the SUV will attract more buyers. Also, dimensions of the Discovery Sport are about to change. We still don’t know details about it, but the modifications will lead to drop in overall weight. All in all, we will eagerly wait for the end of this year to find out all details about the second-generation crossover. There are already some rumors about the delay, but nothing is official yet.
2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport Dimensions
The current generation of the Land Rover Discovery Sport is a mid-size crossover with seating for five or seven persons. In either case, the overall length is 181 inch and wheelbase is 108 inches. The next-gen Discovery Sport could be slightly larger. By that, the interior will offer more room for passengers and cargo. On the other hand, the extra size is not going to affect the agility. More lightweight materials will be in body panels, so the overall weight could even drop. It won’t be a huge saving.
2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport New Engine
It is certain that 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport will add at least one new engine to the existing lineup. So far we can find only a 2.0-liter unit under the bonnet of the current vehicle. It will be a part of the 2019 lineup. However, there are two tunings for this turbo-four drivetrain. The lighter variant can make 237 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque. Upper version delivers 285 hp and almost 300 pound-feet of twisting power.
Interesting, both engines are returning the same gas mileage. It should be increased with a new engine coming next year. We still don’t know exactly which one is that, but it is obvious a V-6 is not in combinations anymore. Some of the earliest rumors reported so, but this info was rubbished pretty fast. The 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport will keep its nine-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel drive setup.
There is another possibility, but for non-US buyers. The Discovery Sport crossover is diesel as well in UK, Australia, and other markets. But, in North America, it is not the case. And it is not going to change for 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport as well. We will keep monitoring the situation, but it would be a huge surprise if we see a diesel engine in the US.
For buyers in other parts of the world, this unit can deliver 150 horsepower and much better fuel economy than petrol unit returns. Also, torque level is higher. However, emissions are stumbling block, and 123 g/km is well above the acceptable.
2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport Delay in Production
During 2017 we could already see the test mules of what was supposed to be 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport. But now, with silence in every area, we are somehow skeptical about it. Even some rumors are starting to whisper about the possible delay. Well, not everything is going according to plans, that is for sure. On the other hand, we doubt that the company will disappoint its fans. So, at least the platform could debut for next year. Of course, if everything goes well, some of the big car shows will host the premiere of the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport.
For a luxury SUV starting price of $40,000 is not so high. Even the upper HSE model is not much more expensive. For about $4k buyers will get some premium accessories worth of the money they invest. Well, there is an HSE Luxury version, which will probably be very close to $50,000. That’s all the basic prices, but the 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport will offer most of the extra equipment through additional packages. So, with heavily equipped HSE Luxury model, the price will go up to $70,000. Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Acura RDX are just some of the competitors waiting for the complete information about the next-gen 2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport.
