The new generation of the Wrangler is getting a new update. Spy photos are unveiling a plug-in hybrid version with refueling plug right above the front wheel. This is going to be a major change for the 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4×4 SUV.
Besides that, the open-roof model is coming with a brand-new EcoDiesel engine available for Ram 1500 and Jeep Gladiator trucks. Well, this mill with 445 lb-ft will definitely boost the off-road performance of the Wrangler. Adventures are waiting for fans in 2021.
Besides the changes in the drivetrain room, we will also see more options inside the vehicle. There are many trim levels to start building the 2021 Jeep Wrangler. The most exciting is Rubicon, off-road and the most luxurious model.

The turbocharged four-banger is capable to produce 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of twist.
Optionally, the famous Pentastar unit can propel the Wrangler to 285 hp and 260 lb-ft. It will save you from turbo lags. This unit is also using manual and automatic gearboxes. A larger unit is not harming the fuel economy since the 2021 Jeep Wrangler V6 is returning the same MPG as the four-pot engine on the open road (25 mpg).

Wrangler is a very specific vehicle. It is fun to drive, especially off the road. It is also offering an appealing open-roof styling, that makes these adventures even more fun. However, the company always tries to improve this feeling. Now, they are about to add an engine with more torque.
Recently, the FCA added a diesel engine for to the truck lineup. Ram 1500 is now using a 3.0-liter turbodiesel V6 and the 2021 Wrangler could benefit of it by taking serious upgrade on the torque end. The power sits at respectable 240 hp, while the twist launches 445 pound-feet. More torque means easier to ride over tough obstacles. Of course, there are also other upgrades coming with the engine itself. Suspension, shocks, transmission, and other parts of the drivetrain system will take some changes before we see the 2021 Jeep Wrangler diesel out at dealerships.

While the diesel engine is existing, but the Wrangler getting it is still a rumor, we could see the new 4×4 vehicle’s test mules testing PHEV version. How do we know that? Well, plug spot is right above the wheel. The latest images are showing the vehicle with almost no camouflage on it, and it became obvious the 2021 Jeep Wrangler PHEV is coming soon.
So, we have info about its arrival. But, everything further than this is a mystery. What kind of conventional engine the FCA is using, how big is an electric motor, what is the gas mileage and the range, and how much it will cost? These are just some of the questions enthusiasts are asking. We will have to wait a bit more until the tests are over. The company is coming out soon with the official announcement, that is for sure.
Release Date and Price
The release date of the 2021 Jeep Wrangler depends on the PHEV model. This is definitely the key upgrade for the next season. Of course, the diesel vehicle is also exciting, but no one confirms this is really happening. So, the official update is what we are waiting for.
The new Wrangler will keep the pricing for models with four- and six-cylinder petrol engines. That means the cheapest offer you will get is the Sport model with the price tag of $28,000. However, there are plenty of options all around the lineup, with engine, transmission, door configuration, and trim levels selection. Rubicon is the trim you would like to test with excellent off-road skills.
We believe that diesel and PHEV are not going to be available with the entry-level packages. Currently, the limited MOAB edition is the most expensive version with the price tag above $51,000. With PHEV or diesel drivetrain, it could skyrocket the price to $60k.
