The new 2020 Jeep Wagoneer has been spotted testing together with its larger sibling Grand Wagoneer. Both vehicles are expected to debut as three-row models next year. Whatsoever, the company is not releasing any statement yet. We know this nameplate is coming back. The news breaks out earlier, and ever since the FCA is not giving us more details about the new Wagoneer.
There are few theories about the SUV. With the new Grand Cherokee becoming the three-row model, the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will be the full-size vehicle that will rival Ford Expedition and Chevy Tahoe. On the other hand, the Grand Wagoneer SUV will be extended version that will compete with Expedition MAX and Chevrolet Suburban. Another theory is positioning Grand Wagoneer in the full-size segment, and the regular Wagoneer is going to be the mid-size model.
The production of the new 2020 Jeep Wagoneer is going to take place in the same factory as Grand Cherokee. The Jefferson North Assembly plant in Michigan now has more room with the Dodge Durango’s production moved from this factory. Durango will use the new body-on-frame platform. More Grand Cherokee SUVs and the capacity for Wagoneer is available.
Possible Engines
FCA doesn’t have to worry about the drivetrain lineup for the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer. Their existing squad will offer both V6 and V8 options, depending on the size and needs of the new SUV. What’s more, Jeep started using the V6 turbodiesel in the new Gladiator pickup truck. With such options, there are no doubts the upcoming model will have something for any kind of a buyer.
The smallest unit in the squad could be the Pentastar V6 drivetrain. A 3.6-liter mill is also under the hood of the Grand Cherokee, Ram 1500, and Gladiator. This powertrain is capable to produce 300 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. But, if the new Wagoneer appears as the full-size model, then we could see only the V8 engines. Again, the FCA is offering options with 5.7 and 6.4-l displacement available in the lineup. The smaller one is delivering 360 hp and 390 pound-feet, and the larger engine adds 60 hp and 70 pound-feet of torque.
The diesel engine is a new Cummins unit. A 3.0-liter turbo mill is creating 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque. Well, these numbers could be decreased for the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer. Still, this is a great option for the fans of diesel power. At this point, we can’t hear rumors about the hybrid drivetrains. Well, first we expect these to see on smaller and more popular vehicles, Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
No Design Surprises for the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer
A seven-slot radiator grille is the highlight of the front fascia. Did you expect anything else? We believe not. Well, the new 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will look like beefed up Grand Cherokee. It is bigger and bolder than its close cousin. We can’t see through the covers on the test mule. However, experts claim that is not any of existing vehicles under the camo. With earlier announcements of Wagoneer’s and Grand Wagoneer’s comeback, we are sure these SUVs are already being tested. Camouflage is not allowing us to see details, but the presence of prototypes promises a lot.
Well, there is one trademark detail we are sure the new 2020 Jeep Wagoneer will use. Unique two-color paintjob, with wooden trim, is probably the most recognizable moment for the previous edition. Now, fans would love to see it back after so many years. The company will also use larger wheels for the upcoming SUV. New headlights and bumper will boost the aggressiveness of the vehicle.
Trailhawk, Trackhawk, and other Versions
Jeep is well-known for its off-road vehicles and 4×4 capabilities. The most impressive trim level helping them reach this popularity is Trailhawk. Special set of features will help your Wagoneer get out of any tough situation. All-season tires, special bumpers, hitches, skid plates, and many other parts improve both performance and appearance. The Trackhawk is a top of the line model with a monster under the hood. A supercharged 6.2-l V8 engine is capable to produce over 700 horsepower. Besides these two, there will be also at least three or four additional trim levels, including Limited as the most premium package.
2020 Jeep Wagoneer Release Date
We will find out more details about the new SUV very soon. The company made an official announcement, and first spy shots are already available. So, it is just a matter of time when will the new model appear. We believe the FCA plans to make the debut next year, not earlier. Production will start when the new Durango moves to Warren plant and leave space for the 2020 Jeep Wagoneer. The new generation of Dodge’s SUV is planned for the 2021 season. Also, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer could arrive at the same time.
