The N package is a dream for any Hyundai vehicle. The latest updates are saying that four vehicles in future will get an N Sport version. Besides cars i30 and Veloster, there are also two crossovers. Hyundai Tucson and Hyundai Kona should be the next two vehicles to get special features from N Sport package.
What does this N stand for? Namyang. That it the center of research and development facilities. Also, every N model brings extraordinary performance, tested at one of the toughest track in the automotive industry. Every model goes to Nurburgring, where the final tests are done. After every N model survives this inspection, it is ready for production. Tucson N Sport and Kona N Sport are almost here.
N Sport Performance
Tucson and Kona are already favorites among fans because of their performance. Well, we are not seeing the range-topping numbers from these two. Simply, their fame owns a lot of excellent fuel economy. So, the crossovers are not powerful enough, or these can burst high amount of torque. It is all about to get the change with N Sport versions. Dynamic driving with more fun is the moto of R&D team for this sector.
N Sport Tucson and Kona Drivetrains
Unfortunately, we won’t see new engines on Tucson and Kona SUVs. The N Sport package includes many other changes, but not the drivetrain. However, with modifications of suspensions and complete drive system, these models can achieve better performances.
So, the smaller crossover Kona will use either 2.0-liter Atkinson powertrain as the main source of power. This naturally-aspirated four-banger is capable to deliver 150 hp. Another option is a 1.6-liter turbo engine with an output of 175 hp and 195 pound-feet of torque. We already wrote about these engines in our review of 2019 Hyundai Kona.
The same options with similar outputs will be in 2019 Tucson. However, this model will also get a hybrid version, and it is not likely to see plug-in N Sport model anytime soon. However, it is still up to the company to decide which of these two powertrains will see N variant. If engineers boost a 2.0-liter unit with a turbocharger, it would be much more powerful than the 1.6-liter mill. But, if they decide not to touch it, smaller, but the more potent drivetrain is the favorite.
Hyundai Tucson and Kona N Sport Changes
Chiefs in Hyundai promised that engine is the same, but everything else is suffering changes. The N badge speaks for itself. It represents the chicane. Or, translated into performance – all vehicles with N Sport package will get special suspension and tuning of the entire drive system. Inspired by motorsport, N package will add more response and balance to the drive. Ultimately, it will boost the overall impression and drive a joy.
So, every owner of Tucson or Kona crossover should try the performance-boosted versions. At the first touch on the throttle pedal, you will fall in love with a kind of acceleration. But then, if you think you are going too fast, wait for a first corner to feel smooth maneuvering system delight. Finally, brakes will additionally boost the safety feeling, while also raise the adrenalin.
