Hyundai is Preparing a Performance SUV (Tucson Gets 700 hp Engine)

1275 0

Hyundai Tucson is one of the best-selling compact crossover SUVs in the world. It is very successful in the US. Also, the Korean company produces a larger SUV – Santa Fe, and next year we will see the first premium model under the Genesis brand. A truck is also on the way. But, it seems more likely that we will see the performance-oriented sport utility vehicle first. Tucson with 700 hp is coming for SEMA show.

This vehicle had a preview at the same place four years ago. Back then, the company was not so successful and its growth wasn’t too promising. But now, the things are changed, and we believe that the production of performance-tuned Hyundai Tucson could start soon. Of course, there are some changes to the first concept and the current plans will implement many new technologies and equipment. All in all, Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will finally get the true rival.

Specs

The new Hyundai Tucson with 700 hp needs a lot of modifications on its drivetrain. Some would say the SUV should get a new engine. Well, they might be right. Or not. The performance-oriented model will use the same 2.4-liter engine as the base version. However, engineers are changing cams, pistons, exhaust, and a few other things. Having that in mind, we can say this is the new engine. When you boost the power output from 180 hp by 4 times more, then some serious upgrades must be done.

For enthusiasts, here is everything Hyundai engineers had to do to get 700 hp out of the four-pot engine.

Exterior and Interior Modifications

The tuning list for the engine is much longer than the designers prepared for the 700-hp Tucson. However, the Hyundai Tucson  700 hp SUV will be recognizable with new Denmatic design and custom grille by Bisimoto. Mud flaps are there, as well as the powder coating and aluminum piping.

Inside, again Bisimoto brings reservoir socks and roll cage. Premium Harman Kardon sound and Infinity audio are infotainment upgrades. Doors are also suffering modifications with sound systems installed in them. Short shifter race buckets are by Buddy Club and leather interior completes the overall sporty impression.

Hyundai Tucson 700 hp SUV Production and Prices

Standard Hyundai Tucson costs around $23,000. The Hyundai Tucson 700 hp SUV is a totally different model. The engine is four times stronger. Will the price be four times higher? We doubt. Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is the most serious rival with Hemi engine capable to produce 707 hp. It costs $85,000. Customized Tucson won’t go so far. We can expect it somewhere between $60,000-$70,000. It is still questionable if the Korean company is getting this version into production and when.
