The 2021 Genesis GV80 is the latest project by Hyundai. Like most other companies, the Korean manufacturer created a new brand for the luxury division. In 2017 we saw the first concept. In 2021, the GV80 enters production. Its sibling, GV70 will be available soon after its bigger brother.
For a long time, the 2021 Genesis GV80 was a mystery. Some fans expected the luxury SUV to appear in 2020. But, the release year is set for 2021 and here is what we know about the upcoming vehicle.
Engine Options and Expected Specs
There are three suitable drivetrains Hyundai can offer to its new arrival. The 2021 Genesis GV80 will be available either with a 3.8-liter or 5.0-liter unit. A 3.3-liter displacement is not so likely to happen since the company dripped it for the new Palisade.
A 3.8-liter engine is capable of producing 290-310 hp, depending on the setup. A 3.3 model is possible only with turbochargers. Fans would definitely like to see a model with 370 ponies. Last, but not the least possible, is a 5.0-liter V8. In this case, you can count on 420 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque. This is the best unit the carmaker has to offer, but we don’t know if the V8 is too big for the mid-size SUV.
Concept vs Production Model
The first teaser images of the new GV80 are out. That is enough to start comparing the upcoming vehicle to the prototype presented in 2017. Well, there are significant differences, but the look is pretty much the same. We don’t have to think twice before concluding the new SUV is based on the old concept.
2021 Genesis GV80 Release Date
The company is testing the vehicle and teases us with new images every now and then. Still, the sales starting date is not confirmed yet, and since we are in 2020, the company could launch it at any time. However, we don’t believe it will happen in the next few months.
