Excursion Max is not a replacement for the Excursion SUV. Yes, its dimensions and sizes are extended compared to the standard offer. Still, the 2020 Ford Excursion would be based on the F-250 Super Duty truck, not the full-size F-150. Having this in mind, we expect larger, more powerful, and more capable SUV. Being based on the F-250 truck, Ford Excursion will probably use the same engines. That means a pretty powerful unit with one petrol and one diesel drivetrain. The gasoline unit is a 6.2-liter V8 that can produce 385 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission is mated to the engine. The other solution for the big truck, as well as for the new Excursion, is a turbodiesel unit. A 6.7-liter Power Stroke powertrain produces 440 hp. Well, Excursion SUV is not getting a maximum torque out of it. Engineers could tune it to burst out around 700-750 lb-ft.

We can hear that Ford is developing a 7.3 petrol engine, which will be the perfect choice for a new SUV. Well, the specs of this one are not available yet. The 2020 Excursion, as a new vehicle will get this fresh unit with improved power and fuel economy numbers. Well, don’t expect this SUV to be too generous with it. According to some sources, the F-250 truck returns 14 mpg combined. The SUV will be slightly lighter, so we could see it offering 15 or 16 miles per gallon. EPA is not making the call on these heavy-duty vehicles.

The 2020 Ford Excursion Diesel will be able to haul more than the petrol engines, that is for sure. A towing capacity of the SUV with Power Stroke unit will be around 15,000 pounds. For a truck, it goes up to 18,500 lbs.

We already mentioned it – the 2020 Ford Excursion will use the same concept and platform as F-250 truck. The length of this model is from 227 to 263 inches. The last time we saw Excursion, it was 227 inches long. So, the new one could fit the size of an entry-level F-250. Like its slightly smaller sibling, Ford Expedition, 2020 Excursion Max could come with the extended body. The length of this one would be 232 inches. There is no information about the colors of the new SUV. Well, Ford will use standard palette similar to Expedition and F-250. Of course, the 2020 Excursion is also getting one or two unique paints.

Interior, Cargo Space

One thing is sure – the 2020 Ford Excursion will have an extra cargo space compared to Expedition. With the possible release of Excursion Max, it will be impossible to match SUV’s capabilities by vehicles in the same segment. The interior of Excursion will be almost the same, or very similar to the smaller sibling. The latest infotainment systems and connectivity options are available. Of course, Ford will offer more features through trim packages. Top of the line model is going to be 2020 Excursion Limited. It will bring leather seats and upholstery, bucket heating and ventilating, navigation, premium audio… Well, we must wait for the debut to see all functions and options the new SUV is going to offer.

2020 Ford Excursion Price and Release Date

The price of the new 2020 Ford Excursion will start above $50,000. That is the cost of the smaller Expedition. With the extra size and a new engine, this model could start around $60k. Turbodiesel and Limited trim level will launch its price above $80,000. We will know more when the company decides to speak about Excursion. We will believe it could happen until the US carmaker comes out and confirm it or rubbishes all speculations.
