We can call Ford Escape a flagship crossover. This compact vehicle sells over 300.000 units per annum. With such numbers, there is no surprise why it is under special treatment. However, modern times are changing technology very fast. To keep up with the growing competition, the new 2020 Ford Escape will have to bring something stunning. Hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, more color options, upgraded Titanium, and other configurations, and even an electric crossover are some of the possibilities for 2020 Escape.
The new 2020 Ford Escape will be redesigned, while the next generation of the compact crossover will arrive after 2021. Nevertheless, the number of changes will refresh the lineup, but it won’t change the shape radically. Also, the Ford Escape for 2020 will use the same platform. Its dimensions and cargo space will remain the same. Well, you can’t expect too much from a small crossover. But, the practicality of the interior layout will stun all buyers. This is one of the main reasons why Escape is selling so well.
What Does The 2020 Ford Escape Look Like?
As said, the redesign will refresh the vehicle. First renderings are showing what enthusiasts are expecting. Their imagination is boosted with spy photos of the crossover. We can see a very similar vehicle with modest changes. But, this will be a break while the company is preparing the new generation. Updates on the front fascia will include new headlights and bumper, similar to Explorer’s modifications. Of course, 2020 Ford Escape will carry smaller parts.
The redesign is not changing dimensions or functionality of the crossover. Interior layout will also be revisited. More features and possibly different seating layout are expected. Finally, the company will see how to upgrade its high-end 2020 Ford Escape Titanium trim. Changes will include the latest connectivity accessories. Be sure there will be room for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Interior
The 2020 Ford Escape interior can take up to five passengers. Although this is a compact crossover, it can offer a lot of legroom for rear-seat passengers. Also, it leaves enough cargo space for loading different items and prepare families for longer trips. The upcoming model will also add more safety features. Besides standard options, Ford will make some accessories from higher trim levels available for base units. On the other hand, premium Titanium configuration will have it all.
Colors
Part of the redesign of the Ford Escape 2020 will be a revisit of paint jobs. The old model had eight options, and the new one could add even more. Fans were very interested in sedona orange color, and this one could be one of the additions for next crossover. It is possible that buyers will have to pay extra for this paint job, as it is for Ruby Red and premium color for Titanium model.
Configurations – 2020 Ford Escape Titanium, S, SE, SEL
The trim level lineup remains the same after the 2020 Escape redesign. That means the base model is S. Mid-range configurations are SE and SEL. Top of the class is 2020 Ford Escape Titanium. This version will add premium touch inside and attractive upgrades outside the vehicle.
We already mentioned a unique color. Larger wheels and special rims are part of the upgrade. Inside the cabin, there are even more features than before. Premium Sony audio system includes 10 speakers. Navigation is being controlled by voice. These controls are also improved. Also, you can set up destination and routes via the touchscreen display. Of course, leather is wrapping seats, steering wheel, and upholstery. Heating is an option for front seats, which also offer a 10-way adjustable system.
Sport Appearance Package
The 2020 Ford Escape Sport Appearance Package is going to bring more features than for previous versions. But, it is not going to be available for Titanium or S models again. The Sport Appearance Package comes with unique 19-inch wheels LED lamps, paddle shifters, and black mirror caps and skid plates. Both SE and SEL trim will add few more special upgrades, such as sportier seats, more leather details, and halogen headlamps. The black color is dominating in this version of Escape crossover.
2020 Ford Escape Dimensions, Cargo Space
The 2020 Ford Escape continues to use the same platform as before. It is a CD2 or C/D Class. The new crossover will be 178 inches long (105.9 inches wheelbase), 66.3 inches high, and 72.5 inches wide. Total cargo space for the 2020 Ford Escape is 34 cubic feet. With seats folded, it increases to 68 cubic feet.
Spy Photos and Rendering
Earlier in 2018 first spy photos of the new 2020 Ford Escape appeared. The vehicle was tested, but after May we couldn’t see it again. First shots are not unveiling too much. However, they prove the existence and development of the new model. Also, a wider cabin and extended tail could make the upcoming model slightly bigger than its predecessor. However, these are the first test mules and we can’t wait to see the 2020 Escape again but without so many covers.
2020 Ford Escape Specs
We expect big changes under the hood of the 2020 Ford Escape. But, the petrol lineup remains the same. One plain and two turbocharged mills are options for the upcoming crossover. Starting from the base solution, there is a 2.5-liter inline-four with 170 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. You can gain around 20 hp and 7 lb-ft if you opt for a turbo-four 1.5-liter engine. This one comes with better fuel economy as well. A 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four is top of the class unit with 245 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The base model sends power to front wheels only. Turbo models have an AWD as an optional drive.
2020 Ford Escape RS
The new 2020 Ford Escape will have plenty of additions. However, we expect the RS model to be introduced already for the 2019 season. This special version will continue its life in 2020 as well. We know it is going to use a boosted turbo-four from the standard offer. A 2.0-liter unit with RS package will be able to deliver 285 hp.
2020 Ford Escape Hybrid and PHEV
Whatsoever, the greatest addition for 2020 Ford Escape will be the reappearance of the hybrid engine. It was discontinued with an arrival of the third generation. But, Ford is going to electrify many vehicles, and they start from the compact segment. That means one of the first hybrids we will see is going to be Escape crossover. We still don’t know what combination this unit is going to use. But, the vehicle will be able to deliver around 30 mpg combined.
While details about the hybrid are still unavailable, we can hear first official things about the 2020 Ford Escape PHEV model. Officials mentioned combining a 3-cylinder drivetrain with an 88 kW battery. In this case, the 2020 Escape plug-in hybrid will do much better than 30 mpg. Also, its total output won’t be too great, since the base petrol drivetrain will create around 150 hp.
When Will The 2020 Ford Escape Be Released?
The release date of the 2020 Ford Escape is set for more than a year from now. We are still waiting for updates for the 2019 model. If everything goes by plan, the new crossover will have a debut in Detroit in 2020.
2020 Ford Escape vs Ford Kuga
Ford Kuga is a rebadged Escape for the European market. These two vehicles are using the same platform, they look the same, and differences are minor. Well, Kuga could get a hybrid and RS versions already in 2019. Furthermore, a European version also offers a diesel engine. A 1.5-liter EcoBoost unit is capable to deliver 120 hp, while a 2.0-liter TDCi is making 150 or 180 hp, depending on configuration. The 2020 Ford Escape is not getting a diesel engine. However, if you are interested in 2019 Ford Kuga, read all about it in a separate review HERE.
