PSA Peugeot Citroen group is probably the largest French carmaker. Their luxury branch DS is stepping into the crossover segment with a new crossover. Sometimes called a goddess, this company is ready to compete with well-known German names – BMW and Audi. The concept of the luxury SUV was presented at Geneva car show and we can already see the first vehicles. But, with 2019 DS7 Crossback we can already see numerous updates.
The president of France was one of the first people who had Crossback in its fleet. Emmanuel Macron arrived at its inauguration in 2017 in the new crossover, released just a month before its win an election. He opted for the new SUV instead of Citroen. Nevertheless, in the last couple of years, we saw Citroen cars with DS badge. Now, the company is separated brand with luxurious vehicles in its offer, including the Crossback SUV.
2019 DS7 Crossback Specs and Powertrain
The 2019 DS7 Crossback is a very interesting crossover because of its engine lineup. If you like petrol cars, this vehicle will have such drivetrain to offer. Turbocharged or diesel unit? No problem! Engineers prepared the 2019 Crossback for such buyers. But, what happens if you want greener crossover? Once again, the DS has a response. A plug-in hybrid Crossback is also part of the fleet in 2019.
Conventional Engines
Under the hood of the 2019 DS7 Crossback is either 1.5-liter or 2.0-liter diesel powertrains. Both of them are 4-cylinder units. The output of BlueHDi engines is still unknown. We can find more info about the turbocharged petrol drivetrain. This 1.6-liter mill is ready to develop 200 hp. However, this one is the most interesting as a base unit for the hybrid system that makes the new Crossback a true competitor in the SUV segment.
2019 Crossback Hybrid
So, the highlight of the 2019 DS7 Crossback is the use of a hybrid combination. Petrol unit and two electric motors are producing power for each wheel. A 4-wheel drive brings better balance and traction, while plug-in model delivers more power while having excellent MPG rating. Combined, conventional unit and electric batteries can produce 300 hp. Then, energy goes through an 8-speed automatic transmission. The driver has three available modes of selection.
Electric battery range and specs
Standard petrol unit gets a help from a Li-Ion battery with a capacity of 13 kW. By using only the electric power, the 2019 DS7 Crossback can go up to 60 km, or 40 miles. To recharge the battery, the car needs 4.5 hours. The special quick-charging system reduces this time to 2.5 hours. However, it is not wide-spread as the standard charging stations.
2019 DS7 Crossback Autonomous drive
Not only that the hybrid drivetrain is the major innovative feature for 2019 DS7 Crossback, but it also comes with autopilot. The autonomous drive of the current model is limited to highway run and speeds between 20-110 mph. By 2019, we could see it reach a higher level. Currently, we can see a Crossback keeping the lane direction. Next season could introduce auto takeover and lane switch function. Also, DS Park Pilot is already in advanced stages of development.
