Cadillac has big plans for next season. At this moment, they have only two luxury SUVs in the lineup. Escalade is the legend, while the raising of the XT5 is tremendous. This SUV will be the base for all next XT crossovers coming in next couple of years. Already in 2019, we will see XT6 and XT4. The lineup will grow, and the final piece should be the 2020 Cadillac XT9 – the largest model in the family.

As said, the entire XT class will use the same architecture as the only existing model. Cadillac, as the part of General Motors, will make luxurious vehicles. The crossover segment is the fastest growing market. Premium vehicles are not achieving such high selling numbers. But, luxury SUVs are still popular enough to see interesting battle there. Besides the 2020 Cadillac XT9, we will see new Audi Q8, and maybe even Q9 by 2020, while the segment is lead by Lincoln Navigator and Volvo XC90.

The question is – what will power 2020 Cadillac XT9. As the full-size premium crossover, it needs a suitable engine. Turbo- or supercharged V-6 could make enough power. But, experts are pretty sure that V-8 is a more likely option. The GM is not going to make a new drivetrain for this SUV. Instead, we will take a look at other powertrains used by vehicles in this family.

There are two V-8s. The first one is a 5.3-liter displacement. We all know it as the base drivetrain for Chevy Silverado 1500. It is also part of the engine lineup of Chevy Suburban. So, it is proven on big crossovers.

The other possibility is closer to Cadillac. The biggest engine used by this company is a 6.2-liter V-8 mill. We can find it in Escalade. So, it would be good for 2020 Cadillac XT9. But, rumors are reporting about the tuning of this unit to deliver more than initial 420 hp. Higher outputs we can see on performance and muscle cars, such as Chevy Camaro.

2020 Cadillac XT9 to Replace Escalade

So, there are a couple of options for 2020 Cadillac XT9. Many people believe this crossover could be the replacement for Cadillac Escalade. Although the vehicle is performing well on the market and raises its sales numbers, the company could make the refresh. Actually, all crossovers could use the same prefix in the name, XT. So generally, this could be more of the renaming of the Escalade, rather than a replacement.

2020 Cadillac XT9 Hybrid

We will consider seriously another rumor. The 2020 Cadillac XT9 could be the hybrid! In two years, electrification in the car industry will take a larger share. Cadillac already had a try with Escalade. So, the new move will be on XT9. Well, this could be the electric version of its older sibling.

Back in 2008, Escalade already was a hybrid vehicle. After the success of its first generation, and second, of the SUV it didn’t come back after Cadillac launched the new one in 2015. Now, as the time changes, GM is definitely considering the plug-in SUV. However, it is not going to use the same technology as in the past. So, this will be the fresh start for the company in many ways.

2020 Cadillac XT9 Design

The 2020 Cadillac XT9 will definitely use a C1XX platform. This means many similarities with other vehicles using the same architecture. However, the crossover will get unique details. First of all, there are well-known Cadillac’s parts, such as the badge on the front grille. Huge air intakes, distinctive headlights, and large wheels are certain. Boxy look with elegant colors will complete the exterior appearance.

Interior

In 2018 it is hard to predict what will be modern and how far technology will go until 2020. But, few things are sure with Caddy. First of all, there won’t be lack of comfort. Well, we can expect rather too much of it, rather than a shortage. Whatever is the latest technology at that time, the 2020 Cadillac XT9 will have it. Infotainment system with new services, premium leather, and colors, highest safety ratings are the things that come with every Cadillac’s vehicle.
