Ever since its arrival, Cadillac XT5 keeps impressing. Its sales are so good so the company started developing new crossovers and SUVs. Besides the 2020 Cadillac XT5, soon we could see bigger and smaller models. The XT4 could be ready for 2019, and 2020 XT9 is on the way as well.
The oldest Crossover Touring model (XT stands for this) will see a facelift. Launched in 2017, this vehicle is ready for the mid-cycle update after only three years. Nowadays, this class is expanding very fast and it causes companies to go along with times. We can see models for every year, at least with modest changes.
First spy shots are available and these confirm the changes on the 2020 Cadillac XT5 are on the way. The crossover is not getting any radical changes on its body. The exterior is pretty much the same. At least its shapes which we could notice over the camo. Interior updates are certain, while the new premium model could get a hybrid drivetrain. More official details about the Cadillac XT5 2020 will be available during next year. For now, all we have are rumors and a few spy photos.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Engines and Specs
The upcoming model is going to keep its old source of power. A 3.6-liter V-6, mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox, can produce 310 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. Transmission is electronically controlled for smoother gear changes. Front-wheel drive is standard. Buyers can also opt for an all-wheel drive.
Cadillac XT5 2020 to get Turbo-Four Engine
The 2020 Cadillac XT5 could also get a new, alternative engine. According to trusted sources, that will be a 2.0-liter turbo-four powertrain. This one would also use the same transmission and drive modes. However, its fuel economy is much better than with a V6 engine. On the other hand, power output is weaker, but thanks to a turbocharger, still suitable for this kind of vehicle. For example, in the Cadillac ATS sedan, this unit is good for 270 horses and 295 pound-feet of twisting power.
February Update
As we said, the new unit in the lineup will be a 2.0-liter turbo-four. But, the company will pair it the upcoming XT5 with its latest gearbox. General Motors announced that the flagship model will use a nine-speed case. the new transmission will boost everything – fuel economy, towing capacity, acceleration, gear shift.
On the design side, GM said the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will borrow some styling solution from its smaller stablemates, XT4, Narrower appearance, slim details, and higher stance are highlights of this model. We will see how these changes will look like on the upcoming XT5. Cadillac released a few teaser images, and from what we can realize, the new crossover SUV looks pretty cool.
Gas Mileage
Changes on the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will make the weight go down. New lightweight materials will save some pounds on the crossover, making it also fuel-friendlier. Fans can expect a boost of at least 1 mpg for combined driving. Currently, the crossover returns 19/26 mpg for city/highway ride in FWD mode, and 18/26 mpg with all-wheel drive. A turbo-four engine will boost the XT5’s gas mileage very close to 30 mpg. For Cadillac ATS the engine can make 20/30 mpg. However, the crossover is heavier, which will make these numbers drop a bit.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Hybrid
If the lack of drivetrain options was a downside of previous editions, the 2020 Cadillac XT5 could offer not only one, but two extra engines. The first we already mentioned – a turbo-four petrol unit. The other one is a hybrid. Such powertrain is already available on the XT5 but in the Chinese market.
It was just a matter of time when the drivetrain is coming to the US. The 2020 Cadillac XT5 Hybrid is going to improve the fuel economy and acceleration. According to official announcements, the crossover will return almost 30 mpg combined. Also, it replaces the transmission with a new nine-speed automatic gearbox. Further details are not available. Strange thing is that hybrid is replacing a turbo-four unit in China, and both these engines are going to be added to the lineup for the US market.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Changes
Spy shots of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 unveil the new look of the crossover. The company is expanding its entire lineup, and all models are based on the Cadillac Escala concept. Larger XT6 and smaller XT4 will be very similar, with front grille much more like on the new platform. Although the spied mule is not the production model, it is not carrying entirely the same parts we could see on Escala.
Besides the front end, the interior is going to add more features and accessories. One of the certain things we will see on the 2020 Cadillac XT5 is a self-driving mode. It is already available on some other models. The autonomous drive is available only for highway drive and requires attention. However, in the next couple of years, Cadillac is going to develop new levels of self-driving features. Besides this help, the driver is getting more aid from electronic accessories inside the Cadillac XT5 2020.
Colors
The exterior of the 2020 Cadillac XT5 crossover will get more color options as well. For some, this is not so important, but it could be a crucial detail for other buyers. It is also an advantage of the current model that offers nine paintjobs. For the upcoming model, designers will add a color or two to refresh the palette.
2020 Cadillac XT5 Dimensions
Although the new 2020 Cadillac XT5 is going to use a lot of features from the new Escala concept, dimensions of the vehicle remain the same. The XT5 length will be 190 inches and the wheelbase is 112.5 inches long. On the other hand, the vehicle could get more ground clearance, making its height go up. But, no big change is on the way, with the possible rise of a ride for 0.5 in.
2020 Cadillac XT5 MSRP Price
All changes on the 2020 Cadillac XT5 will lead to price revisit. The current model has a starting MSRP of $41,000 for FWD. However, there are a lot of options in front of a buyer. Besides the AWD, the next crossover will offer more engines, smaller four-cylinder, and a hybrid. What’s more, the autonomous drive is not a cheap addition. With all these upgrades, the MSRP of the XT5 will probably go above $80,000, which is $10k more than the current vehicle.
Release Date
General Motors, the parent company of Cadillac brand, is not going to rush with the premiere of the new XT5. However, the availability of a test mule and spy photos prove the development. Definitely, it is not going to take too long before we see the 2020 Cadillac XT5 out at some car show. However, the sales will start late in 2019. The hybrid model will follow the base vehicle premiere after a couple of months.
