The first facelift of the second-generation BMW X6 is on the way. After five years, the German carmaker will update its flagship coupe SUV. Its aggressiveness and unique design established this model as one of the most creative the vehicles in the segment. The 2020 BMW X6 will boost it further with new styling. Well, the SUV is not official yet. But, spy photos are the here to confirm the arrival and the first major facelift of the second-gen unit. Of course, the M package must be part of the lineup. Being left outside the squad for 2020 season would be a huge surprise.
So, one thing is clear – the 2020 BMW X6 is certain. We are still waiting for the official updates. When the company’s spokesmen come out with the announcement, we will hear even more details about the update. Furthermore, we might find out if the X6 goes hybrid once again. The electric-supported model came in 2009 and 2010. But, it wasn’t as successful as the bosses in BMW expected. As a part of the redesign, the X6 Hybrid could be back for another run.
Expect Big things From 2020 BMW X6 Refresh
The 2020 BMW X6 is bringing something new for the coupe SUV class. This luxury model is there to impress even the most demanding buyers. Outside and inside, the X6 has always been stunning. First of all, its appearance as the coupe SUV caused a lot of attention. The radical move paid off, and now fans are got used to its design. However, updates are needed every now and then. The BMW X6 2020 is not going to change too much on its body. The SUV keeps dimensions of its predecessor. So, the model is 194 inches long (115,5 in wheelbase), 67 inches high, and 78 inches wide. Well, the slope of the rear end cuts the headroom for passengers on the rear seat. On the other hand, this design solution improves the aerodynamic and overall look of the SUV.
Interior
Passengers on the rear row might lack room for their heads, but overall comfort is not in doubt. The 2020 BMW X6 will be a 5-seater. The German carmaker is not changing the design to install an extra row. Well, if that ever happens, we won’t consider X6 as a coupe SUV. Some other vehicles in the same category have space for seven occupants. However, these are classic SUVs and not coupe models.
We can add also a lack of cargo space on the X6, which is not changing for the 2020 season. And these are both weaknesses of the coupe SUV. Front seat comfort, overall elegance of the cabin, infotainment and entertaining features, safety measures, assist systems, and everything else is on the highest level. Leather upholstery holds plenty of details. Expect from 2020 BMW X6 to boost the appearance even further. Leather seats and steering wheel are improving both comfort and the overall impression about X6 and BMW as a company. Premium audio is available right from the entry-level. But, buyers still can upgrade this with Bang & Olufsen surround sound system.
2020 BMW X6 Spy Photos Shows Minor Things
The 2020 BMW X6 spy shots unveil some changes on the exterior. It is definitely the mean M50i version being tested on the road since we can see details belonged to the M package before. Caps of side mirrors and quad exhaust tips are showing us the 2020 BMW X6M is the test mule. The bad thing is the look of these parts – the same as for the current model. Although the coupe SUV is almost without camouflage, there are no big visible changes. Well, until it hits the production, most of its body is not going to be the same to the mule we could see spied.
2020 BMW X6 Specs Update
Changes under the hood of the 2020 BMW X6 are a mystery at this point. The SUV might get new drivetrains, but experts seriously doubt the German carmaker is doing this. So, we will see again xDrive35i and xDrive50i. the first one is the base unit, a 3.0-liter V-6. The turbocharged inline powertrain is coming only with an all-wheel drive. The sDrive35i could be dropped for the next edition. A V-6 is able to create 300 horses and 300 lb-ft of torque. The minimal increase is possible. If the BMW uses more lightweight materials for the X6’s body, the improvements on fuel economy are certain. However, nothing radical is expected. We could see the xDrive35i delivering 21-22 mpg combined.
2020 BMW X6M xDrive50i To Produce Over 500 hp
The more powerful unit is under the bonnet of the 2020 BMW X6M. This model is on spy shots. The same quad exhaust tips setup unveils the M package. A 4.4-liter twin-turbo drivetrain is a beast. A V8 currently offers 450 horses. According to some rumors, the next edition will boost the output over 500 ponies. A lot of tuning is ahead of engineers, but they have plenty of time. With power increase, there is a boost of torque. These values are going over 500 pound-feet. If anyone cares about the gasoline consumption of this monster, don’t expect it to be fuel-friendly. Highway rating of 20 mpg would be an excellent return.
2020 BMW X6 Hybrid Boosts Gas Mileage
Well, if you are the one that cares how much its big SUV consumes fuel, then you will happy to hear about 2020 BMW X6 Hybrid. This setup is definitely upgrading the mileage. However, the power output and torque will suffer. Also, we still have no feedback from the company about this kind of engine, so the Hybrid X6 is questionable.
2020 BMW X6 Release Date
The big facelift is not coming quietly. The 2020 BMW X6 will be the star of the season with its sibling X5 coming redesigned in 2019. So, there is no other model that can compete with X6’s popularity in the BMW family. Although unofficial, we heard that the coupe SUV is not coming before 2020. When the season starts, fans can expect it either at the Detroit Auto Show or at the next big car display in New York.
The price goes up with facelift. That is obvious. But, the BMW is not going to push it too far. Some features could be cut for the base model, to keep the 2020 BMW X6 affordable, at least for the entry trim level. We can’t say that for 2020 BMW X6M, which is going to cost over $130k.
